Adult Surprise Jacket

I completed and delivered Mama's Mother's Day Adult Surprise Jacket* today, May 11, 2008.
Materials: Andy's Merino II (Farmhouse Yarns) in Lavender (dark from bottom of the dye pot, light from top of the dye pot); MANOS del URUGUAY #111 (multi colored blue, purple, rust, rose, gold); Sheep Shop Yarn Company #F111 (Navy); The original Alafoss lopi light in light grey and one strip in white).
7 Buttons from Sit 'n Knit in Old Wethersfield.
Modifications: I-cord Cast Off in MANOS del URUGUAY. Employed a continuous stream of I-Cord, using Joyce Williams' variation of EZ's Applied I-Cord (k2, slip 1, yo, K1, pass the slipped stitch plus the yo over), the seam is united up the cuff/sleeve (picking up stitches from the selvedges and working 3-Needle I-Cord Cast Off), continued across the neck-back, "seamed" down the other sleeve and ended with EZ's I-Cord Casting Off around the second cuff, and I-Cord Casting Off from one shoulder, around the neck front, down one side, around the lower edge and up the other side to the second shoulder; adding extra I-Cord roundlettes at each corner to turn 90-degrees.** Mitered corners, phoney seams, decreased to make snug cuffs.

*Spun Out #1, Summer 1981 Elizabeth Zimmermann's Adult Surprise Jacket.
**Description of I-Cord is from The Opinionated Knitter, p. 55, 106.
